The Secretary
for Housing, Planning and Lands, Mr Michael Suen, will lead a delegation
to attend the 2005 World Sustainable Building Conference in Tokyo from
September 27 to 29, 2005.
Other delegation members include member of the Legislative Council,
the Hon Patrick Lau; Chairman of the Professional Green Building Council,
Mr Kenneth Chan; Chairman of the HK-BEAM Society, Mr Michael Arnold;
Director of Buildings, Mr Marco Wu; Director of Planning, Mr Bosco Fung;
and Deputy Secretary for Housing, Planning and Lands (Planning and Lands),
Ms Olivia Nip; representatives of related Government departments and
various sectors of the industry, academia and professional institutions.
The objective of the trip is to promote the development of sustainable
building construction in Hong Kong and establish contacts and exchange
views and experience with government officials on urban renewal and
building control, as well as professionals and academics in the field.
Mr Suen will make an address at the opening of a presentation during
the conference by the Hong Kong delegation on sustainable buildings
in Hong Kong.
The Hong Kong delegates will also make presentations on several green
building projects in Hong Kong which include the International Finance
Centre II, Hong Kong Wetland Park and a public housing project at Upper
Ngau Tau Kok, and the Comprehensive Environmental Performance Assessment
Scheme.
The participating government departments and non-government organisations
from Hong Kong will jointly stage an exhibition booth showcasing government
policies, practices and standards of the industry, and exemplary buildings
in Hong Kong at the conference.
During his stay in Tokyo, Mr Suen will also call on the Japanese Ministry
of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and visit the Roppongi Hills Development.
The international conference, hosted by the Japanese Ministry of Land,
Infrastructure and Transport, will be participated by a large number
of building researchers, practitioners, government officials, industry
representatives and students from all over the world to exchange the
latest knowledge and experience with regard to "Sustainable Buildings".
Mr Suen will return to Hong Kong on September 28.
