1. West Kowloon Cultural District

One of the world’s largest cultural projects, offering world-class performance venues and museums, as well as diversified arts and cultural programmes

  • M+ Museum ---- Asia’s global museum of contemporary visual: dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries
  • The Hong Kong Palace Museum ---- Features treasures from the Palace Museum in Beijing and other parts of the world

2. Tai Kwun

  • Hong Kong Arts Festival (Feb-Mar): brings together over 125 spectacular performances (2025) such as drama, dance, music and opera by international and local artists
  • Art March (March): features over 100 events across exhibitions, art fairs, institutional showcases, performances, talks, screenings, and more. Featured programmes include:
  • i. Art Basel Hong Kong: showcases work from 240 prestigious galleries worldwide, while promoting creativity by emerging artists

    ii. Art Central: an international platform for pushing boundaries in contemporary art and experimentation staged in the iconic Central Harbourfront featuring 100+ galleries and 500+ artists

    iii. HKWALLS Street Art Festival: features international and local artists painted murals as well as display their digital artworks all over Hong Kong, along with workshops, and guided tours

  • Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival (Apr-): showcases the preservation and evolution of pop culture in Hong Kong through thematic exhibitions, film screenings, stage performances and outreach activities

  • Asia+ Festival (Sep-Nov): showcases the unique cultural diversity of Asia and the ‘Belt and Road’ regions with a variety of cultural events, including stage performances, exhibitions and an outdoor carnival featuring top-notch artists and troupes

Cultural Events

  • Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) (Mar-Apr): founded in 1976, HKIFF is one of Asia’s historical international film festivals, featuring outstanding local, Chinese and Asian films in Hong Kong
  • Cheung Chau Bun Festival (Apr/May): filled with a wide range of programmes, including vegetarian diet for the first-three days, a colourful parade with children’s floats, lion dances and a bun scrambling competition where competitors race up a 14-metre-high tower frame covered in buns
  • Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races (May/Jun): over 100 local and international teams gather to compete in fast-paced races against the backdrop of Hong Kong’s iconic skyline at Victoria Harbour, along with a lively carnival from day to night across the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade
  • Chinese Culture Festival (Jun-Sep): features an array of programmes, including exemplary local arts projects recognised by the China National Arts Fund, performing arts programmes from arts and cultural organisations, film screenings, exhibitions, and talks
